The creator of the classic trilogy, Bob Gale, reinforced that the idea of a fourth installment of “Back to the Future” is out of the question. In a recent interview, the screenwriter explained that, since the release of the third film, the pressure for a continuation has only increased, but the answer remains the same: “Never”. Gale argues that any attempt to revive the saga would inevitably fall short of the expectations set by the first three episodes, comparing the situation to a well whose waters lose their flavor over time.
Despite the refusal to produce a new film, the author expressed enthusiasm for the new musical adaptation that has reached the stage, in which he still participates in the creative process alongside Robert Zemeckis, director of the original trilogy.
The theatrical version brings back the iconic characters – Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and the eccentric scientist Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd) – and revisits the storyline that mixes time travel and family dilemmas.
The franchise, which spanned from 1985 to 1990, remains alive in other media, such as comics that explore new adventures of the duo. In Brazil, the three films are still available on streaming platforms Prime Video, Netflix, and HBO Max, allowing new generations to discover the universe.
In short, while fans eagerly await a possible “Back to the Future 4”, the creator himself makes it clear that the story is already complete and that any attempt at an extension would be a disrespect to the original legacy.
