The weekend brought sad news to the national dubbing universe: the talented Gaúcho voice actor Luís Franke passed away at 66 years old. Although the cause has not yet been revealed, the impact of his deep and unmistakable voice is already spreading among fans and fellow professionals, especially in video games where his characters became icons.
Born in 1960, in Rio Grande do Sul, Luís began his path in stage arts before moving to dubbing, where he built a solid and respected career. His low timbre gave life to striking figures, establishing him as a reference in the voice‑over segment for games.
Among the works that stand out the most are:
– **Star Wars Battlefront & LEGO Star Wars** – Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious
– **Diablo IV** – Mephisto
– **The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine** – Barnabas‑Basil Foulke
– **God of War: Ascension** – Castor
– **World of Warcraft** – various characters, including in *Warcraft III: Reforged*
– **Hearthstone** – voices of legendary cards
– **Helldivers** – command narration
– **Heroes of the Storm** – Deckard Cain
His work also extended to TV and cinema, with appearances in *Passione* (Giuseppe Samora), *A Grande Família*, the series *Animal* (character “Gringo”) and the film *Tempo e o Vento* (Colonel Onofre Pires). In addition, Luís did commercial voice‑overs and collaborated on the clip “Arca da Aliança”, by the Gaúcho band Velho Roque.
Even without major media exposure, Luís Franke always knew how to use his voice as an immersion tool, elevating characters and enriching narratives. His passing leaves a void, but his legacy remains alive in the dialogues that still echo in the games we love.
Brazilian dubbing loses a great name, but the voices he helped create continue to speak for him, reminding everyone of the weight and magic of an unforgettable timbre.
