Blumhouse clarifies: Brendan Fraser is not part of the new reboot of ‘The Mummy’

The Blumhouse production company announced that the next film in the series, titled *The Mummy’s Curse*, will hit Brazilian theaters on April 16, under the direction of Lee Cronin, known for his work on *The Devil’s Death: The Rise*. The feature aims to reboot the franchise’s narrative from scratch, offering a darker approach focused on classic horror.

The plot follows the daughter of a journalist who mysteriously disappears in the desert and reappears eight years later, transformed by unknown forces. The family reunion quickly turns into a nightmare when the young woman exhibits frightening and inexplicable behavior. The cast includes Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, Verónica Falcón, and May Calamawy, who bring to life characters immersed in an atmosphere of intense suspense.

The production is a partnership between Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, studios responsible for recent successes in contemporary horror. Cronin, who took over directing in 2024, promised that the film will be unlike anything that has been seen in the series, stating that he is “digging deep into the earth to bring forth something very old and very scary.”

Recently, rumors emerged that Brendan Fraser would return to the *The Mummy* universe in a fourth film slated for 2028. To avoid confusion, Blumhouse emphasized on social media that Fraser is not part of this reboot, generating both jokes and greater visibility for the project. The last film in the franchise, released in 2017 starring Tom Cruise, received negative reviews and ultimately halted plans for a shared universe, making this new release an attempt to revitalize the brand.
