Michael: a biopic that revives the King of Pop on the big screen

The long‑awaited production “Michael” premieres on April 21 in Moviecom theaters, bringing the complete journey of the global music icon to the big screen. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film follows Michael Jackson from his childhood, through his successful years with The Jackson 5, up to the final years of his life in 2009.

The narrative is underscored by thirteen tracks that defined different eras, such as “Never Can Say Goodbye”, “I Want You Back”, “ABC”, “Thriller”, “Billie Jean” and “Bad”, creating a soundtrack that spans generations.

To bring the legendary artist to life, the lead role was given to Jaafar Jackson, Michael’s nephew and Jermaine’s son. The actor spent more than a year in intensive training, honing dance moves, gestures and vocal tones to capture his uncle’s essence.

The production spared no expense in recreating iconic moments: the “Bad” and “Dangerous” tours were rebuilt with meticulous detail, as was the legendary “Thriller” music video, which receives a fresh visual treatment. Michael’s original recordings were blended with Jaafar’s voice, offering an even more immersive audio experience.

Beyond celebrating the massive success, the film also tackles delicate episodes, such as the troubled relationship with his father, Joe Jackson, and other controversies that marked the artist’s life. This balanced approach turns the work into a true love letter to Michael Jackson’s legacy, aimed at fans of all ages.
