Emily Blunt plays Margaret Fairchild, a meteorologist who, after being struck by a mysterious force during a live broadcast, begins emitting unusual sounds that suggest communication with another form of life. The actress describes her character as someone who has always felt she does not belong where she is, reflecting the collective unease that precedes the alien revelation. The cast also includes Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, and Colman Domingo, forming a heavyweight team that promises to bring this story of discovery and tension to life.

According to Blunt, “D-Day” provides answers to questions left open by “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”, the 1977 classic that also dealt with UFO encounters from the perspective of ordinary people. The trailer, available in dubbed and subtitled versions, already hints at how the film dialogues with Spielberg’s work from nearly half a century ago, indicating that the director intends to close a cycle that began with the iconic 1977 film.
