Valerie Perrine, the iconic Eve Teschmacher, dies at 82: causes confirmed

The People magazine released the death certificate confirming the cause of actress Valerie Perrine’s death, remembered for her role as Eve Teschmacher in the film “Superman”. The 82‑year‑old deceased suffered an acute cardiopulmonary arrest, technically classified as sudden cardiac death. The Los Angeles Department of Health identified Parkinson’s disease, diagnosed in 2015, as the underlying condition, while dementia was cited as a factor that contributed to her health decline. The announcement was made by Stacey Souther, a close friend and confidant of the artist, who shared an emotional message on Facebook, highlighting Valerie’s courage in facing Parkinson’s without ever complaining. Souther also launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover the funeral arrangements, reporting that the actress passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love, exactly as she wished. He described the last fifteen years of silent struggle against the disease as an example of resilience. Their bond was immortalized in the documentary “Valerie” (2022), directed by Souther, which celebrates the actress’s journey and the challenges imposed by Parkinson’s. At the premiere, the director stated that the film is a love letter to ensure Valerie’s legacy is never forgotten. In addition to her memorable appearances in the films “Superman” (1978) and “Superman II”, Perrine received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress for her performance in “Lenny” (1974), directed by Bob Fosse and starring Dustin Hoffman. Her luminous presence in 1970s cinema leaves a void in pop culture.
