Jenna Ortega surprises in the trailer of ‘Klara and the Sun’ presented at CinemaCon 2026

The new film adaptation of ‘Klara and the Sun’, a science‑fiction romance by Kazuo Ishiguro, premiered its first trailer at CinemaCon 2026, with CinePOP in attendance. In the clip, Jenna Ortega plays Klara, an Artificial Friend powered by solar energy, who is acquired by a mother (played by Amy Adams) and her son. The mother warns the new robot that it is still “under warranty” and that she can return it if it does not meet expectations. Ortega appears completely transformed, assuming the demeanor of a curious and vulnerable child.

The story unfolds in a dystopia where Klara closely watches the behavior of people passing by the shop window where she is placed, waiting for the moment someone chooses her as a companion. When the chance to change her existence arises, the artificial intelligence is advised not to blindly trust human kindness.

The film is directed by Taika Waititi, Oscar winner for ‘Jojo Rabbit’, and brings together a cast that includes, besides Ortega and Adams, Martin Freeman in ‘Miller’s Girl’. Amy Adams, already an Oscar nominee on several occasions, continues with ambitious projects such as ‘Nightbitch’. Waititi, for his part, has been notable with the biopic ‘Whoever Does It Wins’ and the canceled HBO Max series ‘Our Flag Is Death’.
