Lee Cronin tells the origin of the new “Mummy Curse” – visceral terror that is already in theaters

The latest production by Lee Cronin, Mummy Curse, premiered in Brazilian theaters and promises a visceral horror like never seen before. The director, known for The Death of the Demon: The Ascension, gave an exclusive interview during his visit to the set in Ireland, revealing how the idea for a completely different mummy film was born.

Visit to the set in Ireland

In June 2025, the reporter traveled to Ireland to follow the filming. “Being on set has always been a dream,” he says. On set, Cronin explained that the plot came from his own imagination: “I invented everything myself!”. The project has no connection to the classics of 1932, 1999, 2001 or 2008, nor to the Brendan Fraser franchise.

    An original story about mummification

The film starts from the traditional concept of mummification, but focuses on a “insignificant” person and the consequences of that ritual. The narrative follows the young daughter of a journalist who disappears in the desert; eight years later, her return triggers a nightmare for the family.
