TJSP upholds decision: series ‘Tremembé’ remains on air despite Sandrão’s lawsuit against Amazon

The 9th Private Law Chamber of the São Paulo Court of Justice (TJSP) upheld the denial of the urgent injunction request filed by Sandra Regina Ruiz Gomes, known as Sandrão, against Amazon Prime Video.

    ## Judicial decision
In a signed opinion dated February 25, 2026, Judge Wilson Lisboa Ribeiro reiterated that there are no requirements that justify the immediate suspension of the series *Tremembé*. According to the magistrate, any undesirable effects of the broadcast can be remedied at the end of the action, not constituting an exceptional situation that requires immediate judicial intervention.

    ## Context of the lawsuit
    – **Plaintiff:** Sandra Regina Ruiz Gomes (Sandrão)
    – **Goal:** suspension of the series’ exhibition or, at least, of the scenes that portray her in a supposedly false manner; moral damages compensation of R$ 3 million.
    – **Basis:** the work, advertised as “based on real events”, attributes to Sandrão conduct that was not recognized in the final criminal judgment, in addition to generating risk to her physical and psychological integrity.
    – **Injunction request:** immediate suspension of the series, with a daily fine of R$ 10 thousand in case of non‑compliance.

The lawsuit was filed in the 1st Civil Court of the Mogi das Cruzes (SP) jurisdiction on November 14, 2025, a few days after the series premiered at the end of October.

    ## Procedural history
    1. **First instance:** denial of the urgent injunction request.
    2. **Second degree:** injunction also denied by Judge Wilson Lisboa Ribeiro.
    3. **Recent appeal:** the magistrate upheld the previous decision, emphasizing that damage repair can be performed at the end of the action.

    ## Sandrão’s allegations
The defense claims that the series presents her as the main perpetrator of the crime, whereas the judgment itself recognizes her participation as secondary – limited to phone calls and without direct involvement in planning, weapon possession or execution. The representation would have caused embarrassment, threats and hostility in public places, compromising her reintegration process.

    ## About the series *Tremembé*
The production, available on Amazon Prime Video, depicts daily life at the Tremembé II prison in the interior of São Paulo, and is inspired by the books *Elize Matsunaga: The Woman Who Dismembered Her Husband* and *Suzane: Murderer and Manipulator*, both by Ulisses Campbell. The cast includes Carol Garcia, Letícia Rodrigues, Bianca Comparato, Felipe Simas, among others, with screenplay by Ulisses Campbell, Vera Egito, Juliana Rosenthal, Thays Berbe and Maria Isabel Iorio, and overall direction by Vera Egito.
