Xbox Series X|S receives April update: full control of Quick Resume and new customization options

Microsoft has just released the April 2026 firmware update for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles, now available worldwide after a month of testing with the Insider program. The new version brings improvements focused on customization and, above all, addresses one of the community’s oldest requests: Quick Resume management.

    ## Configurable Quick Resume per title
The Quick Resume feature, which allows switching between multiple games and resuming play exactly where you left off, will no longer be automatically enabled for all titles. Now the user can turn the functionality on or off individually, directly in each game’s options.

    ### Why does this matter?
    – **Stability in online games**: titles that require a constant internet connection often experience drops or synchronization errors when using Quick Resume.
    – **Better experience in GaaS**: those who prioritize multiplayer games or Games as a Service (GaaS) gain more control over console behavior.

    ## Dashboard and user experience updates
The Xbox interface also received enhancements that let you personalize the console to your liking:

    – **Guide customization**: choose a color for your profile and apply a gradient (fade) effect in the Guide menu. Path: *Settings > General > Personalization > Customize the guide*.
    – **Badge display**: public profiles now show earned badges, highlighting the player’s history.
    – **Expanded pinned groups**: the limit of pinned game and app groups on the home screen increased from 2 to 10, making it easier to access larger libraries.
    – **Game history**: a new tab in “My Games & Apps” organizes recently played titles.
    – **Transparency between console, PC, and cloud**: game hubs display a save indicator, showing whether saves are synced across platforms.
    – **Streaming indicators**: in Cloud Gaming titles, resolution and network quality icons appear, allowing you to monitor connection performance in real time.

    ## Technical bug fix
Eden Marie, Xbox engineering lead, confirmed that the update also fixes a bug that prevented manual checking for game updates.

With these changes, Microsoft reinforces its commitment to improving console usability and stability, catering to both casual gamers and the most demanding players.
