Author of ‘The Maid’ reveals who is really behind the pseudonym

While the public awaits the continuation of “The Maid” (2026) in theaters, one of the great mysteries surrounding the original work has finally been clarified: the writer’s real identity. In the manuscripts, the name used was Freida McFadden, but in an interview with USA Today the author stated that her real name is Sara Cohen. “I have reached a point in my career where I am tired of keeping this a secret. I am tired of people debating whether I am real or if I am three men. I am a real person, I have a real identity and I have nothing to hide”, she said.

In addition to writing psychological thrillers, Sara Cohen works as a neurosurgeon. She adopted the pseudonym to separate her professional life from her literary one, fearing that her medical reputation would be affected. Despite the fear, hospital colleagues discovered the ruse but promised to keep the secret.

The revelation comes right after the blockbuster success of the first film, which grossed over US$ 370 million worldwide, almost ten times its budget of US$ 35 million. The sequel, “The Maid 2”, already has a release date: December 17, 2027, with Sydney Sweeney returning to the cast alongside Kirsten Dunst, known for her role in “Spider‑Man”.
