Darth Maul has already escaped death several times in Star Wars canon, but received an apparently definitive ending in the series *Rebels*, when he was taken down by the arms of Obi‑Wan Kenobi on Tatooine. Many fans believed that the duel with the former “Ben” had concluded his story, however the creator of the new production, Brad Rau, stated in an interview with Polygon that the return of Darth Sidious’s former apprentice cannot yet be ruled out. “You never know. Now we are focused on exploring this post‑Order 66 period with him,” the director said, leaving open the possibility of a surprising return.
The series *Maul – Lord of the Shadows* takes place about a year after the events of *Revenge of the Sith* (2005) and follows Maul’s struggle to survive the rise of the Galactic Empire, while trying to regain influence in the criminal underworld. Episodes are released in pairs on Mondays at 4 a.m. (Brasília time), with broadcast scheduled through May 4. A second season is already in development at Lucasfilm.
