Star Devourers surpasses US$ 500 M and reaches US$ 510 M in global box office

The film starring Ryan Gosling crossed the US$ 500 million worldwide revenue mark, reaching US$ 510 million after four weekends in theaters. In the United States, the production grossed US$ 256.5 million, while the overseas market added US$ 254 million, establishing itself as one of the biggest successes of 2026.

Despite the impressive performance, Star Devourers lagged behind Super Mario Galaxy: The Movie, which tops the annual ranking with US$ 629 million. Last week, the film earned US$ 30.6 million in 88 territories, registering a drop of only 31 % compared to the previous period, a sign of strong staying power in theaters.

In the plot, Gosling plays a lone astronaut tasked with saving Earth, alongside Sandra Hüller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, and Milana Vayntrub. Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the film adapts the eponymous novel by Andy Weir, author of “The Martian”.

Star Devourers broke three records on its debut: the biggest opening in Amazon MGM Studios history (US$ 80.6 million in the U.S.), the best weekend of directors Lord and Miller’s careers, and the biggest debut for an original film in March. Worldwide, it has already surpassed the US$ 300 million mark.

Critics note that, although the protagonists’ charisma sustains the narrative, the story contains some predictable elements. The film also includes a post‑credits scene that promises to entice fans to stay until the very end.
