In the opening session of CinemaCon, director Alejandro G. Iñárritu unveiled the first images of his upcoming feature, Digger. Actor Tom Cruise appears completely different: bald, with his belly exposed, a heavy Southern U.S. accent and an explosive temperament. In one sequence, he talks to a veterinarian about the critical condition of his cat, which has “two weeks or five minutes” left to live. In another moment, Digger looks at himself in the mirror and shouts: “Determination is something you’re severely lacking, you lazy piece of shit!”
The trailer also shows a heated video‑conference discussion with a scientist, where the magnate downplays the environmental crisis caused by his companies, shouting: “What do you want me to do? Shut down a billion‑dollar platform because of something a tenth the size of my penis?” The situation escalates when the President of the United States, played by John Goodman, warns about the melting ice layer and global economic consequences, stating that Digger is both the cause and the solution.
In the preview’s conclusion, Cruise delivers the line “Panic is a resource. Panic makes people wake up”, reinforcing the dark‑comedy tone that Iñárritu described as “a wild comedy of catastrophic proportions”. The director praised the actor’s versatility, saying he made him laugh every day during filming. Digger is scheduled to hit theaters on October 2, 2026.
