The acclaimed Godzilla Minus One, winner of the Oscar for Best Visual Effects, paved the way for a direct sequel. Director Takashi Yamazaki has just released concrete details about Godzilla Minus Zero, promising to further raise the scale of destruction and the technical realism that revitalized Toho’s iconic franchise. One of the big news is the significant budget increase, which will allow the creation of much more elaborate visual effects. The runtime of the new film should remain close to that of the first, which reached 2 hours and 5 minutes, maintaining the same narrative pace.
Furthermore, the production will be captured in IMAX format, with a large part of the scenes shot especially for giant screens, highlighting the battles between kaijus and large‑scale action sequences. Yamazaki showed enthusiasm when commenting on one of the most impactful scenes of the film, stating that it might be the best kaiju sequence he has ever produced. “Even with all my experience, I rarely get this impressed by visual effects; this guarantees that the audience will see something never seen before,” the director declared. The film will feature dialogue in Japanese and English and is scheduled to premiere on November 3 in Japan and November 6 in the United States, still without a defined date for Brazil.
