## Kevin Feige reveals the plan behind Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told *Entertainment Weekly* how the idea of casting Robert Downey Jr. as Victor Von Doom – the iconic Doctor Doom – evolved over the past years. According to Feige, the proposal began to take shape about three and a half years ago, when the actor was about to win the Oscar for *Oppenheimer*. “At the time, we were talking about ‘the greatest actor in the world.’ We decided that, in our multiverse, we could turn the most famous hero into his most legendary villain,” the executive explained.
## Directors Russo and the magnitude of the villain
Anthony and Joe Russo, who direct the film, highlighted the challenge of working with an antagonist of almost unlimited power. “Doom pushes the conflict to the extreme, but also gives us creative freedom to explore his internal weaknesses,” Anthony Russo said, noting that the character’s vulnerability will be as important as his strength.
