Last Tuesday, CinemaCon unveiled a never‑before‑seen clip of *Mortal Kombat 2*, highlighting the debut of Johnny Cage, played by Karl Urban. The actor arrives in the film as a 1990s action star, now forced to enter the deadly tournament as Earth’s representative. Set in Las Vegas, Cage taunts the mutant Baraka, trying to spark a duel between him and Liu Kang (Ludi Lin). The provocation backfires, and Cage himself is challenged to fight.
Desperate, he utters lines like “I’m just an actor” and “I let the stuntmen do it for me,” before shouting “I’m going to die.” Baraka, upon hearing the plea for mercy, replies menacingly, while the allies remind the protagonist that “you’re an actor, so act.” The clip culminates with Cage showcasing martial skills, performing acrobatics and ending the fight with an unexpected kick to Baraka’s groin.
Director Simon McQuoid, who helmed the 2021 first installment, returns to the helm, while the script is in the hands of Jeremy Slater (known for *Moon Knight* and *The Umbrella Academy*). The cast includes names such as Lewis Tan (Cole Young), Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade), Josh Lawson (Kano), Tadanobu Asano (Raiden), Mehcad Brooks (Jax), Chin Han (Shang Tsung) and Joe Taslim (Bi‑Han/Sub‑Zero). *Mortal Kombat 2* hits theaters on May 7, and a third film is already in development.
