At the CinemaCon edition, Amazon MGM Studios confirmed that the next film of the iconic spy series remains in development. The director chosen to helm the production is Denis Villeneuve, known for the success of the “Dune” franchise, while the screenplay will be handled by Steven Knight, creator of “Peaky Blinders”.
Courtenay Valenti, head of Amazon MGM’s film division, emphasized that the selection of the new Agent 007 will be made with extreme caution. “We know the audience is eager to discover who will wear the classic suit, but we want to ensure the decision is made with respect to the franchise’s legacy,” Valenti said. She also highlighted the heavyweight team already assembled: producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, executive producer Tanya Lapointe, and writer Steven Knight. “When we combine one of the most beloved series in history with top‑tier talent, the result has everything to honor Bond’s tradition,” she added.
Behind the scenes, the competition for the lead role remains fierce. Among the most touted names are Jacob Elordi, Callum Turner, and Louis Partridge, all around their early twenties, which could bring a younger James Bond – possibly as young as 23. Meanwhile, Wagner Moura has been mentioned as a strong candidate to play the villain of the new storyline.
The last actor to portray the spy, Daniel Craig, ended his run in 2021 after five films that included “Casino Royale” and “Skyfall.” The production promises that when the right moment arrives, more information will be released to the public.
