The fourth season of *Invincible* brought the dreaded Thragg, leader of the Viltrumite Empire, to the screen, but the villain’s debut sparked controversy among fans. On social media, viewers point out flaws both in the visual design and in the voice casting for the character.
In Image and Skybound comics, Thragg is one of the most impactful antagonists in Mark Grayson’s journey. When he arrived on Prime Video’s series, the expectation was an adaptation that would preserve the grandeur created by Ryan Ottley in the comics. Instead, many fans noticed that the villain’s design appeared less threatening, attributing the difference to the animation style, which leans more toward Cory Walker’s original artwork.
Beyond the visuals, Lee Pace’s voice – known for *Pushing Daisies*, *Guardians of the Galaxy* and *Foundation* – split opinions. While some praise the actor’s subtle performance, others feel it lacks the gravitas expected of such a powerful antagonist.
The series creators defended the choice: Robert Kirkman highlighted that Pace conveys strength without needing to shout, comparing him to Jake “The Snake” Roberts. Despite the criticism, Thragg is set to have a central role in upcoming episodes, expanding his influence on the storyline.
The mixed reaction did not prevent the new episode from recording the lowest rating in the series’ history, showing that reception is still evolving.
