Live‑action One Piece: Karoo returns in Netflix’s third season

The showrunners of the live‑action *One Piece* series, Joe Tracz and Becky Clements, revealed that Karoo — Princess Vivi’s faithful riding duck — will make its debut in the third season of Netflix’s production.

Initially, the character was written for the second season, but the team chose to remove him temporarily to preserve plot consistency. Tracz explained that Vivi’s infiltration of Baroque Works required a more serious tone, and having a duck by her side could undermine the mission’s credibility. “It would be strange to see Vivi entering the organization carrying her Alabasta duck,” he said.

To compensate for Karoo’s absence in iconic moments, the producers devised creative stand‑ins, such as a bakery cart that appears in Whiskey Peak, and ensured that Vivi mentioned the animal, keeping its symbolic presence, even in the scene with the dinosaur.

Tracz confirmed that Karoo will reappear in Alabasta, where the third season will focus on the princess’s political arc and the final showdown between the Straw Hat crew and Baroque Works led by Crocodile. In addition to the duck’s return, the new phase will bring the long‑awaited debut of Ace, portrayed by Xolo Maridueña, further expanding the already solid cast with Iñaki Godoy (Luffy), Mackenyu (Zoro), Emily Rudd (Nami), Jacob Romero Gibson (Usopp) and Taz Skylar (Sanji).
