Netflix confirmed that Oscar nominee Kerry Condon (known for ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’), will join the cast of the new series ‘The Forest God’, a television adaptation of Liz Moore’s bestselling novel. The announcement was made on the platform’s social media, which is also leading the production.
Condon will share the screen with Maya Hawke, known from ‘Stranger Things’ and ‘The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes’, also confirmed for the project. Liz Moore, the author of the book, will serve as co‑showrunner, writer and executive producer alongside Liz Hannah, creator of ‘The Girl from Plainville’.
The story unfolds in 1975, when teenager Barbara Van Laar disappears at a summer camp in the Adirondacks, reviving the mystery of her brother’s disappearance fourteen years earlier. The series follows the Van Laar family, wealthy yet fragile, as dark secrets come to light.
Maya Hawke will play Judy Luptack, a sharp investigator tasked with solving the case. Kerry Condon, in turn, will be Alice Van Laar, a woman hardened by the pain of a family tragedy and trapped in an unsatisfying marriage, who will have to face the impossible when her 13‑year‑old daughter disappears.
Produced by Sony Pictures Television, ‘The Forest God’ promises to be a multigenerational drama that confronts the past and present, exposing the corrosive effects of privilege and abuse of power in the Adirondack mountains. No further information has been released yet.
