Warner Bros confirms unprecedented film about Aegon’s Conquest, from Game of Thrones

During CinemaCon 2026, Warner Bros surprised fans by revealing that it is producing an entirely new feature film based on the legendary story of Aegon Targaryen, known as “Aegon’s Conquest.”

The project, which was initially conceived as a series for HBO, was reworked to hit the big screen, marking the first exclusive cinematic adaptation of this phase of the saga.

The original series script was handled by Mattson Tomlin, but Warner opted for a new creative direction. Recent information indicates that Beau Willimon, responsible for “Andor”, took over the film’s writing, adopting a visual approach inspired by Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune.” This choice appears to have been motivated by internal competition between the two versions of the same material.

In the universe created by George R.R. Martin, Aegon I, the Conqueror, united six of the Seven Kingdoms using the devastating power of his dragons, forged the Iron Throne from the swords of defeated enemies, and established the Targaryen dynasty that still dominates Westeros politics. The film aims to explore these founding events with high production values and a focus on epic battles.

Warner has not yet set an official release date, but indicates that the launch is slated for sometime after 2027. In the meantime, all seasons of “Game of Thrones” and its spin‑offs remain available on HBO Max’s catalog.
