The developer 4A Games, in partnership with Deep Silver, officially announced the continuation of the acclaimed Metro series. The upcoming title, titled Metro 2039, will arrive between December and February for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store). In a fifteen‑minute presentation, the team shared details about the creative process and showcased a six‑minute trailer that highlights gameplay, visual fidelity level and the promised immersion.
The story unfolds decades after a nuclear war, when survivors still take refuge in the tunnels of the Moscow metro. A new regime, the Novoreich, led by Hunter – now presented as a Führer – controls the population with propaganda and repression, promising a better future on the surface. The player follows the Stranger, a fully voiced protagonist, who decides to return underground despite having sworn never to go back. Haunted by nightmares and confronted by both psychological and physical horrors, he faces hostile environments and mutant creatures that define the franchise’s identity.
According to the creators, Metro 2039 will be the darkest chapter of the series, delivering an even more intense and atmospheric experience for fans of science‑fiction and survival.
