Minions & Monsters surprises at CinemaCon with Wild West action

In the latest edition of CinemaCon, Illumination showcased an unprecedented preview of *Minions & Monsters*, transporting the yellow crew to the classic Wild West setting. The sequence opens with four Minions galloping at full speed after a cowboy‑style bandit. The chase picks up pace as they board a moving train, while vintage police cars race through the town and a factory, creating cinematic chaos. In a tense moment, the little heroes must tilt the train to avoid colliding with a mother pushing a baby stroller

The scene culminates with the reveal that everything was part of a movie‑within‑a‑movie, starring the Minions themselves. Immediately after, the fictional director, voiced by Christoph Waltz, orders everything to start over from scratch. Jeff Bridges appears as the studio head obsessed with the Minions, promising to insert them into every possible production. In another sequence, the characters don medieval armor in front of a castle, while the director asks: “Minions, ready to become the biggest stars?”

According to the official synopsis, *Minions & Monsters* tells the turbulent and absurd journey of the Minions toward Hollywood, led by Dick, who end up unleashing monsters on the world and must save the planet. The voice cast brings together Oscar winners such as Allison Janney, along with Zoey Deutch, Jesse Eisenberg, Trey Parker, Bobby Moynihan and veteran voice actor Phil LaMarr. The screenplay was written by Brian Lynch and the direction was handled by Oscar‑nominated Pierre Coffin, who has also voiced the Minions since 2010.

The production arrives after the success of *Despicable Me 4*, which grossed US$ 230 million in 2024, cementing the franchise as the most profitable in animation history, with over US$ 5 billion in worldwide box office. The film will be produced by Chris Meledandri, founder of Illumination, and Bill Ryan, and is slated to debut in Brazilian theaters on July 1, 2026.
