Lee Sung Jin Accepts Invitation to Write X‑Men Reboot for the MCU

Renowned screenwriter Lee Sung Jin, known for the series ‘Treta’, confirmed that he didn’t hesitate when called to join the new phase of the X‑Men reboot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. During the premiere of the second season of ‘Treta’ in Hollywood, Lee explained that, regardless of his packed schedule, the opportunity was irresistible – “You have to say yes,” he told Variety.

Lee’s involvement was confirmed by director Jake Schreier, who will helm the film. Schreier revealed that Lee and Joanna Calo – co‑showrunner of ‘O Urso’ and frequent collaborator on ‘Treta’ – are already reviewing the script to ensure that the introduction of mutants into the MCU is handled with narrative excellence.

For Lee, the project goes beyond a simple contract; it’s the fulfillment of a childhood dream. He recalled Saturday mornings with his father, watching X‑Men cartoons and leafing through the comics. Although he admits being a fan of characters like Gambit, he confessed a special preference for Jubilee, noting that he has always identified more with the supporting cast of the 1990s team.

Even enthusiastic, the writer kept his feet on the ground, clarifying that the production is still in its early stages and his contribution so far is limited. “It’s more about saying that I’m a huge comic‑book fan and I’m honored to have a small role in this,” he said.

The X‑Men reboot represents a strategic move by Marvel Studios, which has already featured the collaboration of Schreier, Lee, and Calo on ‘Thunderbolts’. The director praised the team’s creative chemistry, stating that working with talented and trustworthy people always yields great results.

The expectation is that the mutants will make their first appearance in the major crossover ‘Avengers: Doctor Doom’, scheduled to debut in Brazilian cinemas on December 17, 2026. The film will bring together a star‑studded cast, including Robert Downey Jr. as Victor Von Doom/Doctor Doom, Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), among many others, and will mark the return of iconic characters such as Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and Magneto (Ian McKellen).

After this encounter, Marvel intends to conclude the Multiverse saga with ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, slated for December 17, 2027, which should cement the new era of the X‑Men in the cinematic universe.
